INTRODUCTION

We are now in the digital era where information can be passed and shared in minutes.


If it could be recalled, before the invention of Internet, the transfer of information from one place to another is a tedious task, as you need to use traditional means of passing information which are difficult.

But with the invention of Internet and recently social media, passing of information become easier and simpler, as it can now be passed with a single click in seconds.

This results the abuse of Internet which was invented for good, fake news scams spam an other illegal contents and now shared every second across the Internet and social networks.

Passing information is very important, but deciding on which information to share is a must as some informations can result conflict, religious crisis, ethnic crisis, insecurity and death at some instances.

In this article, we will highlight some important points to note before you share any information.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE SHARING ANY INFORMATION OR CONTENT

Below are some important questions you need to answer before you share any content or information you come across in th Internet or social media.

1. WHO MADE IT?

Knowing who created the information or content is a must.

By knowing who created the information or content you want to share will help you know if its worth sharing, genuine or false information.

You should avoid sharing any information from an anonymous source or from someone who is known for publishing fake or false information.

2. WHAT IS THE SOURCE?

Knowing the source of the information before sharing it is very important especially when the person that posted it is not an authority or personnel related with the field the post is based on.

Any post that don't have a genuine source shouldn't be shared or promoted by you as there is every possibility that it is fake information.

3. WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

It is essential to know from who the information come from before sharing it.

A practical example is you should not share any information whose source is said to be Police Force, Army, Federal Government, organization etc in as long as the person who said it is specified, that is.e name of the police officer, name of the army personnel, who in the federal government cabinet, and who in the organization said it respectively.

4. WHY ARE YOU SHARING IT?

Ask yourself, why are you even sharing th content or information? What value will it add to your readers?

In as long as there is no any genuine and good goal for sharing it, then it shouldn't't be shared.

You should avoid sharing any information that wont add value to your readers.

5. WHEN WAS IT PUBLISHED ?

Knowing when an information is published before sharing is very crucial, as a post published 2019 may not be relevant by 2020, so sharing it may just be a waste of time.

It is advised that you share only informations that are occurred instantly or not long time back.

INFORMATION NOT TO BE SHARED

There are some sorts of informations that should strictly not to be postedby any patriotic citizen even if comply with the 5 conditions mentioned above, these include:

- Any information that may trigger conflicts between citizens, as this will result instability in the country's security system.

So any information that can cause conflict should strictly be avoided.

- Partisan politics post should not be shared, as it may cause chaos between political party followers.

- Fanatic religious posts should also be avoided as it may cause religious crises.

- Abuse of mockery of any ethnic group should be avoided to prevent ethnic crises.

CONCLUSION

By following the tips mentioned above, I believe some crises could be avoided and it can help filter the kind of informations and contents shared across social networks and Internet at lack, it can also help reduce the abuse of the Internet.
